Connecting creatively in the time of Covid 19
Hong Kong and Frankfurt virtual dance parties for homebound families
What a virtual party it was! Led live from Frankfurt by master DJ Philipp Eltz, 40 Order of Malta volunteers, young people and guest families danced away for 20 intense minutes. Coloured lights flashed while DJ Philipp’s mixed tunes live-streamed into the homes of our Hong Kong families. Dancers viewed and connected with each other, blasting away all loneliness to the sound of the beat. Spent but happy, we all wished for more when the music stopped and signed off in renewed solidarity. The weekly “Dance Fever” party series will continue to spread love and joy. A good workout and fun guaranteed!
This initiative is led by Hospitaller Desiree Jebsen. Mindful of the absence of social activities and other difficulties faced by homebound disabled youth and their families, Desiree sought to alleviate their mental stress while maintaining the Order’s connection. Inspired by the locked-down Italians singing from their balconies, she led the Order of Malta in Hong Kong volunteers in launching a series of online dance parties to bring some badly needed fun and mental respite to those in need.
