CloseThrough its medical, social and humanitarian works, the mission of the Order of Malta is to alleviate the suffering of the sick, the forgotten and all those in need, regardless of their race or religion.
In keeping with the Order’s tradition of caring for the forgotten in our community, Hospitaller, Sophie Mensdorff-Pouilly together with volunteer, Whitney Ferrare, launched Talk Time, on February 28, 2022 with the aim of helping those who have had a laryngectomy (surgical removal of all or part of the larynx), to expand their use of new technology and increase their ability to communicate.
The project is in collaboration with the New Voice Club, an organisation that provides activities and self-help programs to help laryngectomees regain their speech. Talk Time was launched with the goal of providing support to laryngectomees. Initial support took the form of weekly online tutorials on how to use various communications modalities on their smart phones. As social distancing policies relaxed, our volunteers organised physical museum tours and movie time.
