Distributing masks in time of need
The COVID-19 epidemic has led to a global explosion of demand for face masks resulting in a worldwide shortage at the retail level. In Hong Kong, surging prices have rendered masks unaffordable to the most vulnerable and cash-strapped members of our community.
In response, the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta delivered 4000 masks to the Caritas Community Center (CCC) in Ngau Tau Kok last 21 February. A pack of 10 face masks each will be distributed to 400 families registered with the CCC, many of whom rely on the local Comprehensive Social Security Assistance scheme for support.
This donation was possible thanks to the generosity of our volunteer, Sophie Martineau and her group of civic minded friends who reached deep into their networks to source masks at cost.
In these challenging times, let us remember our mission to serve our neighbours in need through simple acts of kindness.
