Local Pilgrimage organised successfully for the second year
Following the success of the inaugual Local Pilgrimage last year, the Order of Malta Hong Kong (OMHK) organised this meaningful and uplifting event again on 27 October. Mrs. Desiree Jebsen, President of OMHK, led a team of 15 volunteers to assist 7 malades who are two young guests with disabilities and five students with special education needs from Caritas Lok Yi School to a remote village in Sai Kung for an enriching journey.
The warm and sunny weather was perfect for our hike through a path with brushes of trees on two sides. The first-time participants were overwhelmed with the beautiful scenery and breath-taking sea view along the path.
As we approaching to the village, we could see our President and our volunteer Maria Xuereb who went before us to set up the Stations of Cross on the green lawn areas. We started gathering around the first Station and entered into a moment of peace. Father Peter Choy first prayed, followed by a reading by our pilgrims.
After the Stations of Cross, we entered into another grassland by a small stream. Although feeling thirsty and tired, everyone was filled with a palpable energy from the Celebration. After lunch and some refreshments, it was time for a Mass. Members and volunteers of faith gathered together in humble service of our malades. The love and care of our members and volunteers to the vulnerable group could demonstrate the spirit of inclusive and harmony community at this Pilgrimage. At the end of the Mass, everyone received a bottle of Lourdes’ water which was collected in our May’s Pilgrimage.
Louisa Lau, Warden of Caritas Lok Yi School, said, “Thanks to the Order of Malta Hong Kong for bringing an unusual experience to the students. The countryside’s walk, the Stations of Cross, and the Mass are some unforgettable memories to the students. Although the students were not expecting such a long journey, they all expressed their wish to join the Pilgrimage again next year.”
Pilgrimage to Lourdes will be held 30 April – 8 May, 2024, please fill and send your registration form before the deadline on 31 December, 2023!
