The Horizon Club and The Homework Club Open Day-A Collaboration between Caritas Hong Kong and The Order of Malta Hong Kong
Launched in 2020, our Horizon Club (formerly known as the Computer Club) serves over 150 children aged 5-14 from low-income families. Under the auspice of Saint Jude’s Church North Point, we have partnered with Caritas Hong Kong in launching The Homework and Horizon Club for 25 school-aged children. On 26 August, the Order of Malta Hong Kong, Caritas Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Lasallian family co-hosted an Open Day for families and volunteers to view the excellent facilities of classroom 404 where this new initiative will be held. The occasion was marked with a cake- cutting ceremony and a tour led by Caritas social worker Terence Mui.
Our Horizon Club coordinator Jennice Lam engaged the children in a high-spirited language game designed for more efficient English learning. Our volunteers concluded the event with an overview of the The Homework and Horizon Club to familiarise the children with the new program that will start on September 4.
At the ceremony, Horizon Club project leader Marina Fairfax shared that “It has been a dream of ours at the Order Of Malta Hong Kong to have a fixed place where the children of our community can come to learn, broaden their horizons and grow….We wished to bring a safe nurturing place and feel that through our program set out by our Horizon Club Coordinator, Jennice Lam, our goal to help each child achieve personal excellence, build transferable skills, learn responsibility, a lot of learning and confidence for life.”
