Virtual Christmas celebration with students of Lok Yi School
Despite social distancing in the run up to Christmas, our volunteers creatively brought joy and love to the boarding students of the Lok Yi School by hosting a zoom Christmas party. Although it was not possible to attend in person, nothing could stop us from celebrating together and enjoying a virtual dance party.
The 14 students with special needs and 10 volunteers all wore their own creations from the t-shirt Art-jamming session last September. Project Leader Vivian Mock kicked off the party by asking everyone to give their best pose and show off their custom-made t-shirts.
The fun started with drawing time when each had a chance to express their individual creativity by designing and colouring their own Christmas decorations. More Christmas cheer followed with singing and dancing to Christmas carols. We even managed to squeeze in a « where’s the missing Santa » guessing game which was a big hit.
We were having so much fun that the end of the party came too soon! Each student came away with a present lovingly wrapped by volunteer Grace Lu and Project Leader, Vivian. Grace also baked some scrumptious home-made ginger bread cookies. Vivian said, “although we don’t know when the pandemic will end, we are so looking forward to our Chinese New Year celebration with the students. We very much hope to meet in person next time. We feel nothing is more important than seeing how happy the students are interacting with us.”
A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all!
