Spreading love and care in time of Covid-19

The last 6 months in total lockdown have been tough for the 12 boarding students with special needs at the Lok Yi School. Luckily, nothing will stop the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta volunteers from showing their love and care for these students.
What better way to inject some joy into their schoolbound days than a …zoom dance party! On 7 August, the students excitedly gathered in front of the School Hall’s big screen to enter the zoom room. After a short greeting, both the students and 11 volunteers lost no time in joining in the virtual music video dance-along. After an easy start with some light dance moves followed by a break, things considerably heated up in the second half as the dance beat quickened and intensified. The party shifted into full swing and all participants let loose. Needless to say, many were disappointed when the music stopped and were reluctant to leave when the party ended.
According to Project Leader Vivian Mock “We were very moved by the ‘thank you’ musical performance that the students prepared for the volunteers. The Covid 19 lockdown has spared no one with many suffering from loneliness, separation from loved ones, grief, and uncertainty. It has been particularly difficult for the Lok YI School boarding students who are away from their families. We hope this Zoom Dance Party will make them feel less alone.”
The Hong Kong Associaiton of the Order of Malta would like to take this opportunity to thank those who participated in our Laptop Donation Campaign. Your contribution has allowed the Lok Yi students access to the internet world and some much needed fun during lockdown.
Watch this space for the next Zoom Dance Party on 21 August!
