No Limits Social Club Hosts a Fun Afternoon Event
July 4 2020 marked another exciting milestone in the calendar of the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta – the launch event of the No Limits Social Club! Thirteen young people with disabilities, together with their parents and 12 volunteers from the Order gathered for 2 hours of non-stop fun. From the get-go, everyone enthusiastically participated in the games which included Noodle Baseball, an Egg and Spoon Race and the Ball Toss.
The games were a good warm-up for the disco party that followed. Volunteer Thomas Wetzer was DJ for the day, spinning out the latest English and Cantonese pop songs. Everyone – parents too!- danced up a storm for 30 minutes. The multipurpose hall of the Methodist International Church was transformed into a kaleidoscope of colourful balloons, movement and laughter.
Parents were delighted by the event . “My son Joseph had very fond memories of the Asia Pacific Youth Camp. As soon as he learnt of the Club organized by Camp leaders Alfons and Sophie, he couldn’t wait to sign up.” Another wrote “Thank you for a most enjoyable July 4 party. Marvin had a very happy and wonderful afternoon!”
The No Limits Club is the brainchild of Members Alfons and Sophie Mensdroff-Pouilly, following the success last October of the Asia Pacific Youth Camp. The Club aims to help meet a largely unfulfilled need by young people with disabilities to socialise with friends, old and new, in a fun and safe environment. In Sophie’s words “We are just doing what we all want to do on a Saturday: hang out with friends, laugh, dance, have fun. Whether or not you have disabilities, that’s what young people do on a weekend, isn’t it?”
