One-on-one chats to spread love and care in the time of COVID
We continue to spread love and care in the time of COVID-19. Determined to make isolation as fun as possible for the Lok Yi students, Project Leader Vivian Mock has launched “One-on-One” chats on Zoom for the month of August.
This week, Vivian Mock and volunteer mother-daughter team Grace and Cassidy Hu, had a great time catching up with students Pak Hey 栢羲 and ToTo 滔滔 in separate Zoom chats.
Vivian and Pak Hey’s 45 minutes together were well spent. Pak Hey began by sharing the recipe for the pizza he had made, carefully listing each ingredient. A match-up card game followed which Pak Hey eagerly completed. Then came Charades, which it tuns out is surprisingly easy to play on Zoom. Vivian was delighted that Pak Hey correctly guessed all of her mimes. They make a good team! As a reward, Vivian held up some almonds to the camera while on the other end, Pak Hey’s teacher offered him some almonds. Pak Hey was confused yet very intrigued by this virtual vs.reality combination and wanted to stay on to straighten out matters!
He’s sure to be back for more chats!
Grace and her 7 years old daughter spent 30 minutes on Zoom with To To. They first warmed up by reading a book with magnet stickers together.
Then they played a card game, Noughts and Crosses and ended with “Guess Who I am”, where Toto correctly followed instructions to choose his preference between two items. We learnt that Toto’s favourite is ice-cream! Toto’s challenges in expressing himself did not stop him from fully engaging in the games.
Our volunteers look forward to more fun times with the Lok Yi students and getting to know them better in future One-on-One chats.
