Take students with special education needs to a shopping mall

27/09/2023

Shopping at a mall can be fun and eye-opening.  Anyone at any age can enjoy walking around in a shopping mall.  The students from Caritas Lok Yi School particularly enjoyed going to the shopping mall.  They enjoy seeing the colourful décor in the mall and the shops.  Last September 19, 14 volunteers from The Order of Malta Hong Kong gathered at the School and then brought 14 boarding students to the nearby Cityplaza Shopping Mall in Tai Koo Shing.

Each volunteer accompanied one or two students to go to the different floors for window shopping.  The students would often find fascinating watching toy shops where they found colourful displays. Most students would get so carried away in the game zone.  As the students with medium mental disability, they could even to the fast food restaurant to choose their favourite bedding snack to take back to School.

Everyone there could feel the joy and fun they were having.  Some of the more serious ones might be bound in the wheelchair but the moments we pushed them to the zone where colourful display or décor, their eye sight would fixed there.  Some of them don’t usually show much expression but the moment they saw the starry ceiling of lighting and different moving characters, they started to show some smiles and displayed with a joyful look.

Florence Wan, Project Leader, said, “On behalf of The Order of Malta Hong Kong, our heartfelt appreciation to all our volunteers, who dedicated your precious time to serve our little brother and sister. I bet I don’t have to say more, that you can see the happy faces and their expression, how happy the Lok Yi students were in this evening.”
