Summer outing for students with special education needs

30/08/2023

Summer is a time for fun and relaxation for students! For some of the students with special education needs, they might not be able to enjoy the freedom and fun in Summer due to their disabilities. Our Project Leader, Florence Wan, and 12 volunteers together with Caritas Lok Yi School organized a fun outing for the students before the summer is over. On 24 August, our volunteers gathered at the School in the afternoon and accompanied 12 students to a restaurant in Central by a private coach before the exciting ride.

During the dinner time, our volunteers assisted some students to enjoy their favorite hamburger meal. In no time, a close rapport and friendship was quickly built up between the students and volunteers. After the meal, we started to embark our walk from the restaurant to the Hong Kong Observatory Wheel. There were a huge crowd of tourists and visitors at the entrance. Fortunately, the School’s staff managed to get everyone onto the Wheel with a special permit, so they didn’t need to wait a long time for the queue. All of them enjoyed the ride and the view for Hong Kong harbour with lots of laughters.

As the night starting came late, some students obviously showed their tiredness. We assisted them to get on the private coach and bid our goodbye and goodnight to the students.

Grace Lu, one of the volunteers, said, “Thank you all! I had a great time and were very blessed with beautiful weather and everyone was able to get on the ferries wheel.”

Louisa Lau, Warden of Caritas Lok Yi School, said, “Our colleagues were amazed by the professionalism of the volunteers. From taking care of the students, assisting them to the restaurant and Ferries Wheel, to exploring all possible solution in getting everyone on the Wheel quickly, the volunteers made the organisation of the event smoothly and successfully.”
