Over 100 participants at our joint Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day celebration
Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year are both occasions to show our love and appreciation for our nearest and dearest. This year, both festivals fell on the same day. The Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta project leaders and the volunteers of Flying Young Program and No Limits Social Club lost no time in collaborating to host an awesome zoom party for the families and guests that we serve. 105 participants logged in, ready to party!
Our Hospitaller, Désirée Jebsen, kicked off the fun with a warm welcome, followed by the traditional Lion and Dragon Dance Show. To break the ice, our volunteers, Alex Berry and Hugo Wong, facilitated a “Find the odd item” game. The children showed their excellent eye-sight and reflexes by immediately finding the correct answers! We must up the game next time!
The highlight of the event was a specially created “Love Letter” video animation from the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta to our families and guests, expressing our best wishes for the New Year and our loving care on Valentine‘s Day. (to view the video, please click HERE).
At this point, our young guests couldn’t wait to show their dance moves. Volunteer master DJ Philipp from Germany, had prepared a list of the most popular Chinese New Year hits. Young and less young, joyfully danced to welcome the year of Ox and to say goodbye to the year of Rat and the pandemic. The party ended on a high note of friendship and camaraderie, as everyone looked forward to a better future.
Communications Chair Esmeralda remarked: “Today was truly a special celebration of love, hope and promise. We look forward to more good times ahead with our families, guests and volunteers. “
