Journey with the SEN students to a dance class: a message from Caritas Lok Yi School Warden, Antonia Chan

02/08/2021

Thank you again to Grace Lu, a volunteer of the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta, on 24 July for her hard work and diligent help in successfully accompanying our 3 students to the dance.  I could not have done it without her help.

Allow me to share our observations and feelings about how memorable this event has been for the students.

Pak Hey (栢羲) was initially very uncomfortable.  He didn’t want to be there and refused to participate.  He asked to go to the bathroom several times, perhaps as a form of escape. Otherwise, he stayed glued to his chair and refused  to participate in the Dance Game. However, as he observed the fun and began to feel the happiness of his friends, he suddenly plucked up the courage to say  “I want to play!”

Having expressed this wish, he opened himself up and started to dance, enthusiastically stretching out his arms and stomping on the floor with his feet!  Pak Hoy wowed us all with his fancy dance moves!

Chun Yin (俊賢) interacted with others and displayed his learning ability!  His wish is to participate in the November 2021 event which will be a dance performance of 20-30 people.

Finally, I would also like to mention Siu Sum (紹森). His excitement was already building up in the MTR on the way to the dance, where he started warming up with some turns and moves!

The three students enjoyed the dance event very much. I truly learned a lot this time,  thanks to the help of the volunteers, especially Grace.”

We will still need volunteers to help take the students to the dance class in Shek Kei Mei every Saturday until end of August. If you can help and support, please contact us by WhatsApp: 91616601 or email: info@orderofmalta.org.hk.

Project Leader Vivian Mock and member Selina Fung took the students to the dance class on July 31.
