“Trick or treat” party for the children
This autumn marks the return of fun gatherings for the Flying Young children. With the local easing of the pandemic, the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta volunteers went all out to prepare an awesome Halloween Party for the children and families of the Caritas Community Center-Ngau Tau Kok last 31 October for a record number of 100+ children and their parents. As soon as our young guests arrived, our 20 Volunteers helped them dress up as their favorite cartoon characters from a wide selection of costumes generously donated for the occasion.
The program kicked off with an engaging session on responsible energy usage to spark the children’s interest in sustainability.
Volunteers Alex Berry and Yuki Yasukagawa had invited Ernest & Young to present their “Energy for change” workshop so everyone could know about the different forms of energy sources and ways in which to reduce energy wastage.
The serious fun followed with several competitive rounds of “Musical Chairs” and “Musical Statues”. Our DJ for the day, Ash Gupta, played Halloween-themed songs. The children and volunteers hit the dance floor, quickly forming a conga line that lifted the Party spirit even more.
Alex said, “I was so surprised to see such a huge turnout of participants at the Party. This shows a clear need by the children to find ways to enjoy life. Our volunteers had such great fun playing and dancing with the kids.”
Our young guests headed home still on a high from all the revelry, each one happily clutching a goodie bag prepared by our volunteer, Jean Sung.
