Sport Day for Students of Lok Yi School
Sports, exercise, and physical activities are very important to students, particularly to students with special education needs. Organising sport games for them does not mean we can’t have traditional race or activities. Last June 7, 2023, our fourteen volunteers assisted the students of Caritas Lok Yi School to take part in a number of exciting and fun sport games including some hurdle races and ball throwing games.
With some thinking outside the box, Caritas Lok Yi School had planned some creative and fun sport games for the students who might be intellectual or physical disability. Our volunteers teamed up with the students to participate in the hurdle and leaping competition, bean bag passing game and ball tossing game. At the end of the event, four students prepared a surprise performance, hip hop dancing, for everyone.
One of our volunteers, Tristan, who participated the event for the first-time, said, “I enjoyed the event very much especially the interaction with the students and helping them take part in the games. Although the boy I was helping with could not speak, some eye contacts and a little smile on his face could melt your heart.”
Wrapping up the evening, our volunteers assisted some of the students to take the snack and drinks before they were sent back to their bedroom.
