Flying Seniors: Bringing love to the Seniors in our Community
The elders in our community have been increasingly constrained and isolated since the onset of the pandemic. We have therefore been very heartened by the positive response from our seniors to our February 27 delivery service launch. In collaboration with the H.K.S.K.H. Western District Elderly Community Centre, a second home delivery service was organised on June 12, 2021. Seven teams of 18 Order of Malta Hong Kong Volunteers assisted Centre staff in delivering blood pressure monitors, digital scales and face masks to 21 seniors. The care package included rice dumplings prepared by the Centre, in celebration of the Dragon Boat Festival.
Volunteer Lugwig Hemel who hails from Germany observed that “The Flying Seniors I visited all gave us a very warm welcome. I specially enjoyed the casual conversations during which the Seniors kindly took the time to explain fascinating aspects of traditional Chinese culture. The entire program was very well-organised.”
