Deliver COVID-19 Relief Packs to Elderly
During the 5th wave of pandemic, most of the service and recreation centers for the elderly were closed, severely impacting the well-being of the seniors. To help ease their hardship, our project leaders, Ambrose Ng and Teresa Lo, organised a third round of home delivery service for the elderly in the Western District last April 9.
The Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta volunteers arrived at the H.K.S.K.H Western District Elderly Community Center in the morning to assemble the COVDI-19 Relief Packs. Each pack contained canned food, noodles, antiseptic detergents and Rapid Antigen Test kits. Deliveries were divided into morning and afternoon sessions of 10 volunteers each who brought the packs to the homes of 80 elderly in the neighbourhood.
An elderly lady who lives alone told us – “I’m so grateful. My 90 year old husband is staying in the hospital now and I am all by myself. It’s so good of you to bring me so many goodies.”
Our young volunteers Anna Dai and Bruno said: “It was such a great day for us. Seeing the elderly so happy and friendly makes us happy too!”
