Volunteers from JP Morgan Chase provide services to the students with special education needs

27/05/2024

The Order of Malta Hong Kong (OMHK) in collaboration with JP Morgan Chase Co. has originally planned to organise an outing for the boarding students of Caritas Lok Yi School on 25 May. Project Leader Florence Wan invited a total of 24 volunteers to join this event. Among them, 22 volunteers were from the volunteer teams of JP Morgan and Chase.

Due to the unsteady weather, we decided to organize some fun indoor games for the volunteers to play with the students. Before the event, the Warden of the School, Rachel, gave a volunteer briefing to the volunteers so that they would know what to expect and how to interact with the students with special education needs.

Following the briefing, the Warden also led the volunteers to tour the School so that they could get to know how the living conditions and environment of the students. During the games, the volunteers assisted the students in playing the musical ball passing, ball tossing, and paper airplane competition.

Before we bid farewell, the students sang the “Goodbye Song” to our volunteers to show their appreciation to our volunteers.

Xavier, the Leader of the volunteers from JP Morgan Chase, said, “At the beginning, I was not sure if I was helping the student who was in a wheelchair and non-verbal. After trying a few times to play with him, we saw his shaking legs showing his happiness. I was very touched by that momentDespite the things I was doing seemed so insignificant, the impact to them could be life-transforming and important to them.”
