Talk Time: Collective memory and remembering things past

We have a new project called Talk Time that we can’t wait to share with you! After an initial online meeting, Project Leader, Whitney Ferrare and Hospitaller, Sophie Mensdorff organised an in-person tour of the Asia Society Photography Exhibition last June 7 for eleven laryngectomees.
The exhibit proved to be a nostalgic walk down memory lane with many good recollections of old Hong Kong, from the 1946-47 postwar recovery through the resilient 1950s to a time of growth and change that were the 1960s and 70s. The photos were taken by photographers Hedda Morrison, Lee Fook Chee and Brian Brake.
Many details in the photographs reminded the participants of their youth, such as an old-fashioned scale that was a common household tool for local families, or street views of old Hong Kong that recalled roaming through the neighbourhood with friends.
Whitney said, “it was really a fun time to spend with these members who are so eager to communicate and interact with people. The exhibition was a perfect venue to connect us together through the collective memory of the city and people. I think this is a very meaningful event to bring comfort and encouragement to these lovely people. I really enjoyed their company!”
We hope that you can join us at our next Talk Time event to spend an enjoyable time interacting with our new friends.
