Students with SEN delight in shopping mall outing

27/05/2026

Shopping for food and toys remains one of the most beloved activities for students with special educational needs (SEN). For many, even the simple pleasure of window shopping and browsing colourful toys and games is enough to satisfy their sensory needs.

On 13 May 2026, fourteen dedicated volunteers from the Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta assisted Caritas Lok Yi School in taking 30 boarding students on an exciting outing to the nearby City Plaza Shopping Mall in Taikoo. The group set off from the school and enjoyed a pleasant 10-minute walk, passing through a children’s playground, a pedestrian tunnel, and residential areas before reaching the mall.

Upon arrival, the students were immediately captivated by the mall’s vibrant décor and bustling shops. The volunteers divided the students into smaller groups to ensure personalised attention and safety. Some groups explored the lively toy shops and fun-fair area, while others headed to the ice-skating rink to watch skaters glide gracefully across the ice.

The students thoroughly enjoyed their 45 minutes of window shopping and exploration, their faces lighting up with joy and excitement. After capturing memorable photos together, the group returned to school filled with happiness and satisfaction.

The volunteers and students are already looking forward to their next event — celebrating the Dragon Boat Festival together on 10 June.
