Extra-ordinary Easter Celebration in 2023
After a long suspension of physical events at the Caritas Lok Yi School, ten volunteers of the Order of Malta Hong Kong lost no time last 29 March in organizing an in-person Easter Party for 20 boarding students with special educational needs. Caution prevailed even if the social distancing rules had` been lifted in Hong Kong, with the wearing of masks required as the students are the most vulnerable group in our community.
After a quick briefing for the volunteers on Dos and Don’ts and a rundown on the interactive events program, the fun began with a short video on Easter followed by a quiz. The students were very quick to answer questions on the story behind this special celebration. Next came creating colourful Easter eggs and treasure egg hunt that everyone enthusiastically participated in. The event ended on high note with snacks and refreshments and before we knew it, it was time to bid our farewells.
Volunteer Sirius Kwok, said: ”It’s my first time joining this event! I had so much fun playing with the students.” At the debriefing time, the first-time volunteers were amazed by the talents of the students and looked forward to future events.
