Celebrate Chinese New Year with special needs children
On February 7, before the week of Chinese New Year Day, volunteers of Order of Malta Hong Kong joined the families and friends of the boarding students of Caritas Lok Yi School to celebrate the Chinese New Year. As Chinese New Year is a time to bring families and friends together, we were so happy to have the chance to spend a wonderful time with the boarding students through various stimulating games. We were divided into two groups to compete in some games. Many of them enjoyed the competition among themselves. The games such as “word puzzle” and “seek and find” required the volunteers and family members to assist the students to play. While playing the games, we were cheering the others to participate and play the games. Finally, every students lined up to hang up the mini “fai chun” with messages of goodwill onto the cardboard tree.
As we were still in the joyful spirit, one of the volunteers, Elvis, disguised himself in the outfit of traditional Chinese figure, “Cai Shen” and distribute the golden coin chocolates to everyone.
After the games, they were all so exhausted. Our volunteers helped the students settle down and eat the tradition Chinese New Year snacks, fried carrot cakes.
There is no better way to celebrate festive season than spending the joyful time with these students and their families.
