After-School and Horizon Club come back for the second year

28/08/2024

On August 24, 2024, we again partnered with Saint Jude’s Church, Caritas Hong Kong, the De La Salle Brothersto organise an Open Day to celebrate the new School Term.  To celebrate this special occasion, our President, Mrs. Desiree Jebsen led 3 members and 10 volunteers to join this ceremony.  This will be the second year for the Horizon Club to be organised daily for students 8 – 11 years old in 2024-25.

Two of our students, Charlotte and Berry, were the Masters of Ceremony, who started to welcome everyone and played ice-breaker games with the audience. We then kicked-start the event with a Welcome Speech by Father Timothy Wan, the Parish Priest of St. Jude’s Church, followed by speeches from Mr. Paul Tam, a volunteer from De La Salle Families, and Mrs. Marina Coghill, Project Leader of Horizon Club.  Vanness, a social worker at Caritas Hong Kong, briefly introduced the project plan to the parents and volunteers.  Our Project Leader, Marina, also specially introduced the new Horizon Club Coordinator, Cheri Chen, and briefly introduced the new Lesson Plan for the new School Term.

After the introduction, the teachers were given time to meet with the parents individually to understand the needs of the students from each family.  The children showed their excitement towards the new school term and re-connected with our volunteers through various fun games. At the end of the event, we could see the high expectations from the students and volunteers towards the new school year.
