OMHK Local Pilgrimage held at the newly renovated chapel in Shum Chung Village

Following the success of the inaugual Order of Malta Hong Kong (OMHK)Local Pilgrimage in 2022, this spiritual activity has become a significant annual event for its members, volunteers and the malades. Mrs. Desiree Jebsen, President of OMHK, led a team of 10 volunteers on October 25 to assist 4 Malades, who were students with special education needs from Caritas Lok Yi School, travelling to a remote village in Sai Kung for an enriching journey.
After the one-hour leisure walk from Yung Shu O Public Parking, we arrived the beautiful and tranquil Shum Chung Village. Prayers of the Station of Cross on the green lawn has become a traditional practice for this Local Pilgrimage. Taking turn to read the scriptures was a solemn and reflecting moment for everyone. To revitalize everyone’s strength, we arranged a Hakka lunch at the local restaurant in the Village.
The highlight of this year’s Pilgrimage was to celebrate the Mass at the newly renovated Chapel which was originally a school being abandoned for decades. The students joyfully read the scriptures and sang the hymn together with volunteers and members.
We look forward to more volunteers and Malades to join our pilgrimages, including the Pilgrimage to Lourdes to held on next year during April 29-May 9, please register before the deadline on December 31, 2024.
