Empowering Abilities: A Memorable Experience at the 4th Asia Pacific Summer Camp for Disabled Youth

12/09/2024

The 4th Asia Pacific Summer Camp for Disabled Youth in Pattaya, Thailand, with the theme “Empowering Abilities,” was a special event for four young adults from Hong Kong, members of the No Limits Social Club. Accompanied by three volunteers, Amanda, Bruno, and Sophie (the Hospitaller of Hong Kong Association of the Order of Malta) they had a great time filled with fun activities and bonding moments.

The event kicked off with a light-hearted gathering at the airport, from where the group eagerly boarded their flight to Thailand, looking forward to sunny days and fun-filled activities ahead. Throughout the camp, lasting bonds were formed, and memories were created that would be cherished for a lifetime.

They enjoyed team games, including a croquet tournament, and a visit to Pattaya’s Botanical Garden where they fed and rode elephants. The participants also had a good time at the yacht club, which has beautiful ocean views. They enjoyed abundant delicious Thai food and bonded through dance evenings, performances, and daily “shopping trips” to Seven-Eleven during breaks.

After the memorable experience, the group returned home safely and greeted by their happy parents at the arrival area. The camp created lasting memories captured in photos and videos, reminding them of the joy and friendship they shared.

Special thanks to the Order of Malta Thailand for organizing the event and to the participants – Moses, Adrian, Justin, and Dara – for their unique personalities, independence, trust, and teamwork. Their kindness and camaraderie made the camp a truly special experience for everyone involved.

Thank you to the volunteers who accompanied the group and shared the joy.

The 4th Asia Pacific Summer Camp for Disabled Youth was not just a fun event but also a place where lasting friendships were formed and a sense of community was nurtured among individuals with special needs. The camp continues to bring together young people with and without disabilities from different countries, making a positive impact on their lives year after year.

We look forward to the next one!
