An unforgettable cruise for youth with disabilities

04/11/2022

Following a highly successful Adventure Ship Limited outing at the 2019 Asia Pacific Youth Camp, Alfons and Sophie Mensdorff-Pouilly, Project Leaders of the No Limits Social Club, decided to once again host this exciting event for our guests and volunteers last 28th October.

Twenty-six of us excitedly gathered bright and early at the entrance of the Marine Regional Headquarters in Sai Wan Ho to board the traditional Chinese sailing junk for an unforgettable cruise.  After a safety briefing by the Captain, we were divided into three teams.

After changing into our swim gear, we were taught how to wear the safety vest.  No time was lost as we launched into action by helping hoist up the sails under the supervision of the trainers. We had just enough time to enjoy the wonderful sea breeze before docking at Clearwater Bay where a series of exciting challenges awaited us.  Team A was tasked with steering a water boat while Teams B and C were assigned to cross the water on floaties of varying shapes.  Each team member had to ring a bell upon successful completion of his/her task. But this was easy compared to the ultimate challenge of grabbing a pulley to swing from the boat and jump into the sea.  Most of us managed to celebrate conquering our fear by  making a big splash as we entered the water.

After all this excitement, volunteer Maria Xuereb, said, “I found the challenges difficult to achieve and felt fear as well.  I am so amazed to see that the guests managed to overcome their fear and complete their tasks so well. This is really a great training for all of us”

One of the parents of the guests, Vivien Mak, said, “Thanks so much for this great fun and adventure day out on the ship.  Charles was very happy and excited!”
