First Mental Health First-Aid Workshop was held for volunteers successfully

04/05/2026

In the wake of last year’s tragic Tai Po Fire, the impacts on the survivors and victims’ family members could be permanent, not just the property but also the family members and things that placed important value to them. After learning from this incident, we are all aware of the important to understand about the Mental Health First-Aid which might help people to handle the psychological fallout and get back to normal life quicker.

On 25 Apri, 2026, we partnered with the Red Cross to organise a Mental Health First-Aid Workshop for 22 volunteers from all walks of life. The Workshop was led by Mr. Prednison Morales, together with his two colleagues, Mr. Reo Morimitsu and Mr. Hadrian Hui Ching Tong, to teach the basic knowledge about Psychological First Aid (PFA) and its application when working with children.

To kick-start the Workshop, our Hospitaller Mrs. Sophie Mensdorff-Pouilly gave a brief introduction. Besides learning the theory and principle knowledge of PFA, our volunteers were also given opportunities to practice the knowledge with each other in groups. Each group was given opportunity to present the ideas on how to handle the situations in various scenarios.

After the 3-hour Workshop, over 20 of them joined our Hospitaller and the three instructors for Dim-Sum lunch to have a more in-depth conversation on what they had learned.

One of the participants of the Workshop, Dr. Bernard Murphy, said, “It was so informative and incredibly interesting. All the speakers were excellent. I would love to do another course if that’s possible in the future! Everyone I spoke to afterwards seemed to feel the same way!”
