Celebrating Chinese New Year with Caritas Lok Yi School Students

Celebrating Chinese New Year is one of the favorite festivals for the students at Caritas Lok Yi School. To bring the joy and excitement of the holiday to them, our 18 volunteers transformed the school’s hall into a vibrant venue for a Chinese New Year party on February 11, 2026. As a warm welcome to our volunteers, five students showcased their dancing talents with lively Chinese New Year routines and energetic hip-hop performances.
Following the wonderful dance showcase, two teachers from the school distributed fai chun (traditional Chinese New Year banners) to the parents and volunteers. Everyone joyfully read aloud the blessings inscribed on them. Next, the teachers guided participants in using beautiful red packets to craft Chinese decorations. Each person put their best effort into creating unique wall-hanging ornaments. At the session’s end, groups selected their most impressive decoration and displayed it on the festive board.
Before wrapping up all the activities, one of our volunteers and one of the students dressed up as the Chinese God of Wealth and distributed Lai See to all students. Last but not least, our volunteers helped the students taking their bedtime snacks and enjoy some special bonding time together. Before the students returned to their rooms, we exchanged heartfelt “Happy Chinese New Year” wishes and eagerly anticipated our next event in March.
