Horizon Club

Supporting children from low-income families

Under the auspice of Saint Jude’s Church North Point, we has partnered with Caritas Hong Kong in launching the Homework and Horizon Club for children from low-income families since September 2023.  In collaboration with Caritas Hong Kong and the De La Salle Brothers, the Order of Malta  provides children living in poverty with educational and mental health support and help them to reach their potential. Caritas Hong Kong, a Catholic-based non-profit organisation, offers relief and rehabilitation services to the poor and the distressed in Hong Kong and the De La Salle Brothers is a group formed among retired teachers of a local school. The after-school service divides into two parts.  The Horizon Club classes conduct from Monday to Friday for one hour immediately after the Homework Class at 4-6 p.m..

The Horizon Club not only aims to equip the Children with English language but also knowledge that they don’t often get to learn from school.  The children aged from 7 -11 years old from low-income families will be benefited to learn English in a fun and interactive ways such as sport games, arts and crafts, singing, dance and drama. The program set out by our Horizon Club Coordinator is to help each child achieve personal excellence, build transferable skills, learn responsibility, a love of learning and confidence for life. The lessons and activities are based around different themes for each term, lead by our Horizons Club Coordinator (who has a background of teaching and child care) daily with the sessions supported by our volunteers.
